Caroline Aherne's Mrs Merton, the sweetest-looking pensioner ever to skewer a celebrity, hosts her Christmas Eve chat show for 1996. Slade's Noddy Holder, broadcaster Clive James and Irish crooner Daniel O'Donnell take the sofa and face her famously innocent, devastatingly direct questions. She smiles sweetly right up until she asks the one nobody dared. Short, sharp and very 90s, it is a slice of Christmas Eve television from a different era that still lands, and at under half an hour it fits neatly between the sprouts and the Queen's speech repeat.
