A Christmas Day tradition on BBC One since 2009, and still the one the whole family sits down for. A plucky mouse strolls through the deep dark wood and, to dodge a fox, an owl and a snake, announces he's off to meet a terrible monster called a Gruffalo. Then he meets the actual Gruffalo. Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's rhyming classic gets a lovely animated treatment with Robbie Coltrane, James Corden, John Hurt and Tom Wilkinson on voices. It's short, funny and just thrilling enough for small people, with a smug little hero and a very satisfying finish.
