Amy and Rory are aboard a space liner that is plunging towards a planet, and the only way to save it is to soften the heart of a lonely, miserly man called Kazran Sardick who controls the weather. The Doctor's plan is to nip back into Kazran's past, which is where a flying shark, a stored-away singer and an old man's lost love come in. Dickens gets a sci-fi remix, with Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and a surprisingly bittersweet romance threaded through. A properly Christmassy story: sparkly, strange and with a lump-in-the-throat finish.
